Hello, comic fans,
We’re reaching far, far back for some fantastic key issues for you this week, so hold on tight! Up first is a rare copy of Fantastic Four #1, featuring the first appearance and origin of Marvel’s first superhero team, the titular Fantastic Four! The missing centerfold (hidden inside the sealed case) in no way makes this a less desirable or displayable item.
Also available this week is a lovely example of Batman #18, a truly intriguing Golden Age issue that not only features the classic villains Tweedledee and Tweedledum, but it also boasts a stunning World War II cover with the likenesses of Hitler, Hirohito, and Mussolini. This is a fascinating piece of comic history.
Don’t miss out on your chance to own either of these for your collection!
These 10-day auctions run from September 16th to September 26th:
|Fantastic Four #1
CGC Qualified Grade in 3.0 condition with off-white to white pages.
For your consideration, this incredibly scarce and very key book, although with a missing centerfold, can be a fantastic addition to your Silver Age collection. Featuring the origin and first appearance of the Fantastic Four (Marvel’s first super-hero team), as well as the Mole Man, with a Stan Lee story and cover and artwork by Jack Kirby, this legendary issue launched the Marvel Age of comics. The rest is history.
In the context of history — we feel we should note that there are swastikas included in the pen marks on the back cover. (This is clearly shown in the included photos.) With that – It’s a bit thought provoking that this issue was released only 16 years after World War II, and the comic is close to 60 years old!
CGC Universal Grade in 5.0 condition with off-white to white pages.
This is an excellent addition to your collection. A notable key issue, because this book features a patriotic wartime Stan Kaye cover depicting Hitler, Hirohito, and Mussolini. Interior work includes Joe Samachson and Bill Finger stories, along with Bob Kane, Jerry Robinson, and Jack Burnley art, not to mention appearances of the classic Golden Age Batman adversaries Tweedledee and Tweedledum!
Don’t forget that these auctions are ending Saturday, September 19th:
CGC Universal Grade in 9.8 condition with off-white to white pages.
This gorgeous high grade book is an incredible double-size guest-star-loaded classic to add to your collection. It features the “death” of Elektra, appearances from Bullseye and Kingpin, and a Punisher cameo. This issue’s story is written by Frank Miller and has cover and artwork by Miller and Klaus Janson.
